Be inspired by the stories of “Memoirs of an African Child”

“For a long time we left this important work in the hands of strangers and then acted surprised when a story was told wrong“.
Farirai Mubvuma
Author of “Memoirs of an African Child”, AFRIKA KOMMT! alumna

Farirai Mubvuma, author of “Memoirs of an African Child” wants more people to understand what it is like growing up in the many different African countries.

AFRIKA KOMMT!  2016 – 2018 consisted of 22 fellows from 10 different countries. During their stay in Germany they spent time listening to each others stories and through this the the idea of writing a book was born.

“I asked from the participants willing to share their stories, not because they have reached their life goals but because they are at least trying to do so like the rest of us!”, so Farirai Mubvuma in her introduction.

Eleven stories from Angola, Burundi, Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria and Zimbabwe from courageous and curious AFRIKA KOMMT! alumni were compiled in the book. In writing their stories, they teach us what it means to look at Africa with all its nuances, with prudence and sensitivity.
