Mutual Benefit, Great Impact

Market Expansion for B.Braun

After participating in the 5th intake of AFRIKA KOMMT! in 2015 – 2017, Akofa immediately transitioned to opening the first branch office of B. Braun in Ghana, covering Western and Central Africa. Here, she worked as a consultant for B.Braun to support market access and expansion.

As a young leader zealous about health care access for the bottom of the pyramid population and in partnership with B. Braun, Akofa left no stone unturned in the pursuit of her passionWithin 18 months of her engagement in the Ghana office, she single-handedly conducted a nationwide training on specialized medical equipment by training 618 doctors, nurses and biomedical engineers in 12 secondary and tertiary level health facilities. What a great achievement in such a short time!

Her zeal came from her realization that much of this equipment had been lying idle in health facilities, denying its benefits to those it was meant to serve. In addition to this, she connected her now employer, B. Braun, to other Government and private institutions that needed training and organized several symposia where she transferred the skills and knowledge she had acquired. The results of her work and passion have not only had direct impact on quality health access for the local population but also opened up new markets for B. Braun.

High level networking

In her days as an AFRIKA KOMMT! fellow, Akofa had the opportunity to give a speech at a reception with federal president Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Schloss Bellevue. In addition, together with former B. Braun board chairman, Prof. Heinz-Walter Große, she represented the company during a visit of the Ghanaian President in Berlin. In Ghana, she represented B. Braun, again together with Prof Große, at a lunch during a delegation visit of Angela Merkel to Ghana. The constant support she received from former board member at B. Braun, Prof. Heinz-Walter Große, is something she will always carry with her.

The story continues

As one is open to continuous learning and new ideas, Akofa, who is based in Ghana, has now positioned herself as a Health Systems Development Consultant for Hospital Engineering GmbHamong other institutions. Her career trajectory continuous to rise and we are glad to be witness to her great success.
