AFRIKA KOMMT! offers more than the chance to acquire further training

Nineteen of Germany’s leading businesses have committed themselves to a common cause. In 2008, they launched the AFRIKA KOMMT! initiative for economic and capacity development. The programme trains young, future managers from Sub-Saharan Africa on-site with German companies. The main idea behind the initiative is to create a win-win-situation for the programme participants and the partnering companies. Thus, the initiative lays the foundation stone for sustainable economic cooperation with Africa and aims at forming stable cooperative partnerships for the future.

After five successful programme years, the results are very positive: Some of the participating companies have decided to host more than one AFRIKA KOMMT! participant since the third year. Former participants continue to pass along their knowledge and experience in their home-countries and more than two thirds of the participants of the previous programme year now work in the branch office of their respective partner company in Africa.

The ZEIT-Stifung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius and the Robert Bosch Stiftung support the international programme as cooperation partners. The Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier endorses AFRIKA KOMMT! and acknowledges the initiative through a reception of the young leaders. It also receives active support from the German Federal Foreign Office and the German embassies in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been commissioned by the companies to organise and implement the programme.
